What is Fibro-Vein?

Fibro-Vein is a detergent based sclerosant and is licensed for the treatment of varicose veins. It is a sterile aqueous injection of Sodium Tetradecyl Sulphate (STS), an anionic detergent, and has been used in the treatment of varicose veins since 1946. Fibro-vein is manufactured in the UK and is the only STS based sclerosing solution that complies with British Pharmacopoeia specifications.

Fibro-Vein is licensed for the treatment of varicose veins of the lower limbs by injection sclerotherapy using the sclerosant in liquid form. Injection of Fibro-Vein converted to a foam is not approved and is regarded as 'off label' use. The licence does not support off label use and the practitioner will be responsible for such use. Advice should be sought from the local ministry of health and professional body by practitioners choosing to use the product outside of the licensed indications.
